Many brides want to take advantage of the natural beauty of the outdoors on their wedding day.  With tempting offerings like cascading mountain tops, picturesque waterscapes, and sunshine twinkling through trees it’s no wonder that outdoor weddings are often a first request for the summer and fall seasons in our showroom.

The only problem of course is the fear of bad weather. Rain or excessive wind can reek havoc on outdoor weddings. Unfortunately, if you have always had this as your dream, it can be hard to let go. Luckily now you don’t have to! Here are a few tips on how to make your outdoor wedding a success, rain or shine!

Consider tenting options:
We can offer some amazing solutions. One of our favourites are clear tents. All the light can come in, and your guests can stay protected. Embellish this tent with soft sheer ceiling draping and sparkle.

Utilize Heavy Decor
Choose pew markers that are firmly secured to seating, and urns for alter arrangements that can resist the wind. They will not only have more visual weight in large outdoor spaces, but they will also be physically heavy enough to stabilize other decor elements like isle runners.  Avoid things like sheer swagging or grassy floral that can blow into guests and distract them.

Alter Decor
Choose fabrics that are sheer to softly decorate the alter. Heavier fabrics in this area can catch the wind and cause problems. They also look beautiful blowing in a natural setting.

Furniture
For outdoor weddings, there are some beautiful options for rattan furniture lounge spaces. Consider this outdoor furniture as you start designing your reception. We also like it for a meet an greet pre-ceremony cocktail area!

And, the English royal wedding created princess fever that won’t die down for some time yet!

The style that we will see will be anything that glitters and is monogrammed, and lots of lace!  It will send out a romantic message for 2011 and 2012 brides.  The royal wedding itself  was no doubt very respectful of the traditions and customs of the royal family, but the every day take on the style of fairytale wedding decorations and wedding bomboniere monogrammed with the couple’s details created a truly unique look.

To create your own look and be a princess use dazzling acrylic diamonds, mirror bases on tables and crystal garlands dripping from high reception table centrepieces.  Wedding invitations should feature embossed monograms and gold or platinum foiled personally-created motifs.

Brides inspired by the royal wedding can style their wedding favors along the same lines by reaching for acrylic frames with gems, a diamond like place card frame which doubles as both a place card on table settings for wedding receptions as well as beautiful miniature photo frames for your guests to take home and Crystal Diamond Shaped Tea Light Holders which cast a twinkling glow on wedding table settings as well as make a beautiful wedding bomboniere for guests.

What will your royal wedding look like?

Some bride’s may jump at the idea, and I was a little hesitant at first, but I have to say, after researching, my mind has definitely changed!   You can go about putting this together a couple of ways:

1) DIY

2) have someone else make it for you!

Depending on how artistic you’re feeling and the amount of time you have to complete the project, I suggest Doing It Yourself!  Think about the pure excitement and satisfaction you will have after completing YOUR bridal bouquet!  I guarantee your guests will be astounded and want one for themselves.

If you’re wondering where you may find material for this, try vintage stores, online, garage sales, Michael’s,  any local arts and craft store’s around your area.  Feel free to incorporate buttons of different sizes/colour, mismatched earrings, gems.  These could be used as fillers around the brooches, or in replace of.   If you don’t have time to DIY, search for local artists in your area who have put together a piece such as this, or is willing to take on the venture!

The sky is the limit with this idea!  Whatever the theme of your wedding, you can match with your brooch bouquet.

This look is perfect for the girly-girl and reminds us of fairytale endings with Prince Charming.  Just like Lady Diana on her wedding day this look is soft, pretty, and dreamy.

Colour Scheme

The colours you choose for your wedding day set the style and tone for your entire event. The main colour here is pink. Pink radiates romance, softness and beauty. The accent colour is neutral grey in multiple shades – silver, platinum and slate. Mixing the feminine pink with masculine grey creates a versatile palette that will please both the bride and groom.

Table Linens

A delicate lace overlay is on top of a neutral slate tablecloth. Instead of draping the overlay down the sides of the table, it’s fastened to the edges of the table. To create a clean edge around the table the fastened lace overlay is covered with a beautiful rosette border in platinum. This border can also be used to decorate your cake table and layered downwards for a more dramatic effect.

The platinum napkins have a shimmery silver touch on the edges and have been folded to look like lily pads. The lily pad fold is labour intensive but so pretty! In the centre of the napkin you can place a soft pink hydrangea. Hydrangeas need lots of water and if you plan to recreate this look you will want to fill a small votive candle holder with water. Nestle the votive into the middle of the napkin and place the hydrangea stem into it. Guests will have to lift the holder and flower off their napkin and put it on the table before they eat dinner.

Centrepieces

For any bride and groom, choosing the right arrangement of flowers is a fundamentally important part of the wedding planning. Floral centrepieces reflect the bride’s sense of style as well as invoking a sense of grace and elegance to the event. For this fairytale theme, lots of different shades of pink have been incorporated into the floral arrangements. The vases are a combination of silver, crystal and glass. The shape of the vases should be feminine and soft.

If your budget permits, create one large floral centrepiece for each table and display it on a two-foot stand. When everyone is seated at the table the floral arrangement should not interfere with anyone’s line of site. Surround the base of the tall centerpiece with more pink flowers held in short, pretty vases. The vases you choose should add some shimmer and sparkle to the table. A vintage look to the vases will add some whimsy to the table.

Special Touches

By adding embellishments to the table you can transport guests into a magical mood with royalty in mind. In this case, the place cards are cutouts of a princess carriage. The stemware is rimmed with platinum and mirrors the feminine shape of the vases on the table.  Lucite Tiffany chairs with platinum seats look like glistening glass slippers. Charger plates are in platinum and ground each place setting. Vintage crystal brooches are added to each place setting and add to the overall sparkle of the table.

Cake

A princess wedding theme cake should be elaborate and elegant with edible pearls, lace-pressed fondant, elegant hand piping and delicate crystallized sugar flowers. Ideally, your cake should match the colour scheme or your wedding tables. In this case we put a large mirror onto a covered bistro table. The cake was placed in the centre of the mirror and pink rose petals were strewn around the base.

Canada’s “I love Toronto” event.  The “Love Tree” was created by using existing structure of the venue and incorporating white branches spanning all across the ceiling.  The party space was bathed in red light, and orbs of reds roses hung from the ceiling, while the reception desk was accenutated with a floral sculpture of Toronto’s Skyline! An inviting, love-filled room for the special event.

The Granite Annual Ball was the black tie social event of the year for its members.   TSYF was requested to showcase the elegance, glamour and romance of the late 50′s and early 60′s as depicted in such classic films as “An Affair to Remember” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”.   Guests entered through the Tiffany themed walkway, which showcased lush, and over-the-top floral arrangements that mimicked an elaborate jewelery display.

Once inside the ballroom, the guests took a stroll down a NY walkway framed in park benches and street lamps.

Granite’s stage was transformed into the NY skyline using hanging globe lights, a romantic photo backdrop and edged in greenery creating a gazebo-like setting.  Luxuriant ivory and cream toned floral centerpieces at each guest table emphasized the majestic ballroom décor. Unique interior decoration, no doubt inviting and breathtaking, effectively encompassed the idea that dining out in New York City in the late 50’s and early 60’s was definitely a night to be remembered.

Everyone was pleasantly surprised when the mystery chef was revealed –  well-renowned Executive Chef, Marc Thuet, from the hit show Conviction Kitchen.  He WOWED everyone in attendance, with his inspirational creations!

The real eye-catcher this evening was the modern decor and floral additives throughout the venue.  The metallic blue chiavari chairs partnered with pure white linens, offset by the the elegant silver candelabras and deep red pomanders really accentuated Toronto’s Winterlicious theme.

Michelle Williams sure knows how to spell ‘class’ when dressing up for any event.  Her long sleek white dress, by Chanel, paired with studded earrings by Harry Winston jewelery and Jimmy Choo shoes screams elegance, and is a perfect look for a bride who is seeking glamour and high fashion.

A pioneer to the Oscars, and an Academy Award Winner, Nicole Kidman – who has ‘failed’, on occasion, with her fashion sense –  really took breaths away with an eccentric Dior dress, laced with exquisite rhinestones, a one-of-a-kind pattern, and a remarkable Fred Leighton diamond necklace.  This dress is perfect for a bride who is looking for a little flare and modishness all-in-one.

What can I say, Gwenyth Paltrow was stunning in her metallic Calvin Klein gown.  The plunging neck-line paired with striking jewelry from Louis Vuitton, shows a sexy, yet chic look that can unquestionably be worn while walking down the aisle.

If, however, this is something to daring for you, why not take her inspiration and place a nice sheer linen over the table tops, which will create a sexy sophisticated look your guests will truly love.

Celine Dion wowed the audience with her tight fitting Armani Prive dress at the 2011 Academy Awards.   A dress sure to turns heads while walking down the aisle.

Evidently, not everyone is going to fight for this look,  so if this doesn’t scream YOU, why not take this sexy, simple look and displace it throughout your wedding.  By adding a pure white linen to the table tops, an elegant centrepiece consisting of white and purple orchids, a few suttle candles, and a sharp looking table set,  you will achieve the sexy, simple look you aimed for.

My number one winner is…. Halle Berry!!  She blew everyone away with her Marchesa gown!  This form-fitting dress will definitely accentuate those luscious curves you have creating a jaw-dropping  hour-glass figure.  Perfect for a bride who is a little daring, and wants to flaunt what they got!!
