Many brides want to take advantage of the natural beauty of the outdoors on their wedding day.  With tempting offerings like cascading mountain tops, picturesque waterscapes, and sunshine twinkling through trees it’s no wonder that outdoor weddings are often a first request for the summer and fall seasons in our showroom.

The only problem of course is the fear of bad weather. Rain or excessive wind can reek havoc on outdoor weddings. Unfortunately, if you have always had this as your dream, it can be hard to let go. Luckily now you don’t have to! Here are a few tips on how to make your outdoor wedding a success, rain or shine!

Consider tenting options:
We can offer some amazing solutions. One of our favourites are clear tents. All the light can come in, and your guests can stay protected. Embellish this tent with soft sheer ceiling draping and sparkle.

Utilize Heavy Decor
Choose pew markers that are firmly secured to seating, and urns for alter arrangements that can resist the wind. They will not only have more visual weight in large outdoor spaces, but they will also be physically heavy enough to stabilize other decor elements like isle runners.  Avoid things like sheer swagging or grassy floral that can blow into guests and distract them.

Alter Decor
Choose fabrics that are sheer to softly decorate the alter. Heavier fabrics in this area can catch the wind and cause problems. They also look beautiful blowing in a natural setting.

Furniture
For outdoor weddings, there are some beautiful options for rattan furniture lounge spaces. Consider this outdoor furniture as you start designing your reception. We also like it for a meet an greet pre-ceremony cocktail area!

This look is perfect for the girly-girl and reminds us of fairytale endings with Prince Charming.  Just like Lady Diana on her wedding day this look is soft, pretty, and dreamy.

Colour Scheme

The colours you choose for your wedding day set the style and tone for your entire event. The main colour here is pink. Pink radiates romance, softness and beauty. The accent colour is neutral grey in multiple shades – silver, platinum and slate. Mixing the feminine pink with masculine grey creates a versatile palette that will please both the bride and groom.

Table Linens

A delicate lace overlay is on top of a neutral slate tablecloth. Instead of draping the overlay down the sides of the table, it’s fastened to the edges of the table. To create a clean edge around the table the fastened lace overlay is covered with a beautiful rosette border in platinum. This border can also be used to decorate your cake table and layered downwards for a more dramatic effect.

The platinum napkins have a shimmery silver touch on the edges and have been folded to look like lily pads. The lily pad fold is labour intensive but so pretty! In the centre of the napkin you can place a soft pink hydrangea. Hydrangeas need lots of water and if you plan to recreate this look you will want to fill a small votive candle holder with water. Nestle the votive into the middle of the napkin and place the hydrangea stem into it. Guests will have to lift the holder and flower off their napkin and put it on the table before they eat dinner.

Centrepieces

For any bride and groom, choosing the right arrangement of flowers is a fundamentally important part of the wedding planning. Floral centrepieces reflect the bride’s sense of style as well as invoking a sense of grace and elegance to the event. For this fairytale theme, lots of different shades of pink have been incorporated into the floral arrangements. The vases are a combination of silver, crystal and glass. The shape of the vases should be feminine and soft.

If your budget permits, create one large floral centrepiece for each table and display it on a two-foot stand. When everyone is seated at the table the floral arrangement should not interfere with anyone’s line of site. Surround the base of the tall centerpiece with more pink flowers held in short, pretty vases. The vases you choose should add some shimmer and sparkle to the table. A vintage look to the vases will add some whimsy to the table.

Special Touches

By adding embellishments to the table you can transport guests into a magical mood with royalty in mind. In this case, the place cards are cutouts of a princess carriage. The stemware is rimmed with platinum and mirrors the feminine shape of the vases on the table.  Lucite Tiffany chairs with platinum seats look like glistening glass slippers. Charger plates are in platinum and ground each place setting. Vintage crystal brooches are added to each place setting and add to the overall sparkle of the table.

Cake

A princess wedding theme cake should be elaborate and elegant with edible pearls, lace-pressed fondant, elegant hand piping and delicate crystallized sugar flowers. Ideally, your cake should match the colour scheme or your wedding tables. In this case we put a large mirror onto a covered bistro table. The cake was placed in the centre of the mirror and pink rose petals were strewn around the base.

Their wedding reception featured soft chocolate brown and ivory colours with tasteful crystal accents such as crystal curtains incorporated into the backdrop and crystal garlands overlaid on the head-table. Several ivory pillar candles and dendrobium orchids sprawled along the length of the head-table enriched the soft ambiance of the couple’s lovely reception.

Guest-tables were overlaid with a chocolate brown wide table runner and showcased vellum candles trimmed with a chocolate brown and tiffany blue ribbon and printed with a Fleur de Lis design.

Julian and her bridesmaids walked down the aisle at the Church of Nativity in Scarborough carrying abundant bouquets bursting with gorgeous combinations of texture and colour. Sarah McDonald, To Suit Your Fancy’s in-house floral designer, created Julian’s bouquet using mango calla lilies and green anthuriums. Grass loops were embedded in the arrangement to create ‘movement’ and crystals accents were strategically placed on the tips of the anthuriums making the whole arrangement sparkle. The bridesmaids bouquets were similar in style to the bride’s with the exception of the mango callla lilies and the choice of flowers beautifully complimented the colours of their dresses! The two lovely flower girls had great fun with their organza wands which were highlighted with hot pinks accents and sparkles.

Groomsmen elegantly sported green hypercuim berry boutonnieres while the handsome groom showed off a single mango calla lily with a crystal pin. The ring bearers looked exquisite with bountonnaires that matched the groom’s.

The wedding reception was held at Grand Baccus (www.grandbaccus.com) in Scarborough and was a celebrated flourish of orange and fushia colour! The grand backdrop was a 14′ shimmering fushia and ivory spectacle accentuated with crystal curtains and up-lighting. The kings-style head-table was layered with a sun glow overlay and highlighted with a mix of multi-height candles and glow lighting. Two huge floral arrangements, consisting of a double-ended flare vase filled with orange snapdragons, orange tiger lilies, hot pink gerbers and green figi moms, flanked the head-table. Each guest table was decorated with a sun glow overlay and featured a mix of table chandeliers, cocktail sized floral arrangements, floral centrepieces and crystal candle votives. Ivory Giselle chair-covers, each complete with a round diamond chair brooch, made the reception sparkle from front to back. Julian and Ean’s choice of decor and floral truly made the room radiant with contagious energy and beauty! Many congrats to the happy couple!

To Suit Your Fancy created a grand entranceway complete with gold columns, ivory and gold fabric draping, areca palms in gold containers and up-lighting. The newly-weds entered the room amidst swirling fog and seated themselves on elegant white thrones to enjoy the movements of the African dancers while sipping on beverages served in goblets!

Kimberlee and Sean’s grand backdrop featured gold columns which supported the champagne, ivory and gold fabric draping, palm trees in gold urns and an Isis bestowing her majestic gaze above the head-table. Unique details such as Egyptian pedestals, genie bottle centre-pieces and Egyptian-figure cake pieces transformed the evening into a truly majestic night!

Married on Aug 1, 2010 at Angus Glen Golf Club (www.angusglen.com), ceremony decor featured an alter arch with crystal curtains, ivory linens and modern-looking alter arrangements and rose balls. Alter arrangements were designed using tulips, hydrangea, purple freesia flowers, green fugi mums and palm leaves. Sophisticated aisle draping and rose kissing balls led the bride and groom down the aisle towards their matrimony.

Natasha and Omar’s reception decor featured a string-skirt on the head and cake table as well as an ivory and eggplant criss-crossing grand backdrop. Crystal curtains, crystal brooches and a cake fitted with custom buckle accents completed the overall ambiance of the room.

A pleasingly sunny and warm day paid homage to a bride and groom who looked as breathtakingly elegant as the scenery and decor encompassing them. Held on July 30, 2010 at the McLean House property, Tamsen and Michael invited their family and friends to step into a vintage fairytale whose ambiance was nothing short of romantically whimsical and effortlessly chic.

Focusing on a antiqued/rustic theme, To Suit Your Fancy used the venue’s trees, gardens and a stonewall to incorporate crystal strands, sahari rose petals, crystal votives and pendants and several multi-height candles set in antiqued glassware and cylinders for a soft and chic ambiance. The vintage candy table, customized place settings and exquisite floral enhanced the wedding’s theme while encouraging guests to linger and enjoy the natural surroundings.

A radiant white bridal bouquet (made up of lisianthus, cymbidiums and hydrangea), several green bridesmaid’s bouquets (figi mums, button mums and carnations), the groom’s boutonniere (green hypercuim berries with beargrass loops) and his groomsmen’s boutonnières (button mums with grass spikes) naturally complimented the enchanting lush foliage cascading throughout the grounds.

Opting for a backdrop devised entirely of orchid trees (set in urns), the couple feasted at a traditional head-table behind a cake-table strewn with white petals. Guests sat at tables centered with white hydrangeas set in clear square vases with sprouting beargrass loops and a large single green leaf rolled in the base of each vase.
